(A tutorial on using and setting up your Learning Portfolio)
In addition to finished creative products, method and process should be included. The most apparent are elements of production- tools, instruments, or technology. Iterations, drafts, and experiments should be visible. Your sketchbook contains ideation. Finally, there is documentation of research- a procedure mapped in a diagram, a graph of findings, taped-up image reproductions, and collections of inspirational things. This visual evidence of the full creative process should be included within the LP.
Captions, Labels, Titles, Catagories & Tags
Short sentence/ word length text is important on the LP Workspace. Clear use of labeling sets up an organization and communicates concepts to the reader. Descriptive labeling clarifies the procedure and cites sources appropriately. Distilling complex ideas into simple titles and tags build the ability to synthesize knowledge. Tagging also encourages connections across courses and years. Use categories to identify the name of the course that belongs to the assignment.
Reflective Writing
Reflective writing is also writing produced exclusively for the LP Workspace. It is writing that requires stepping outside of a paper or project. Posing questions such as: ”what did I learn?” “why did I” “what if,” “why not” and “what’s next.” The repeated and regular practice of reflection builds the ability to self-assess and teaches how to learn in any context. These are skills that impact both agilities between disciplines and intrinsic connection to learning.
